In 1979 I made my first trip to Ireland. 25 visits later the love affair came to a rest. I had some wonderful experiences in Ireland and met some great people. After a just a few visits I could see that the propaganda in the English press was so biased it was unbelievable.

Unfortunately it was believed by the English public. I saw through it and embraced the struggle of the Republicans. I wanted to tell it my way, in a naive and simple way I suppose.

Life should be simple, it doesn’t need to be complicated by other people’s bigotry and arrogance.

Ireland has changed immeasurably since I last visited, as in the UK there is an atmosphere of nastiness in politics. Charles Haughey and Garret Fitzgerald were positively mild compared to the vindictive and nasty politicians who now preside over a once happy country.
